Dear Erin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your hard work along the trail to the ocean. I especially enjoyed the food discoveries you made and the way you presented them in your weekly journals. The cooks back at Monticello will be able to recreate your discoveries easily.
In your final entry, I hoped to hear more details about how the journey was "the corps at its best":
details about some of the members of your party's specific discoveries and sharings . . . how you got along as a group
also about how the journey was "America at its best":
details about the relationship between white people, black people, Native Americans, animals. I constantly held up Lewis, Clark, York, Sacagawea and Seaman hoping to make a point about how they embodied the American dream of liberty and justice and Constitution for all. Lewis and Clark and the Corps and the Indians somehow pulled that off, and I hoped you might mention that in your final words.
I can't say enough about the irreplaceable energy you added to the classroom under the fluorescent lights and fenced in by the four walls about the incomparable spirit you added to our classroom underneath the blue sky and left open to the mountains and valleys and ocean and river. Thank you more than I can say. I hope to travel many more places with you. We won't be the same without you.
Love,
(Captain) John
